Jon Jandai – Life is easy. Why do we make it so hard?
August 4, 2014
Jon is a farmer from northeastern Thailand. He founded the Pun Pun Center for Self-reliance, an organic farm outside Chiang Mai, with his wife Peggy Reents in 2003. Pun Pun doubles as a center for sustainable living and seed production, aiming to bring indigenous and rare seeds back into use. It regularly hosts training on simple techniques to live more sustainably. Outside of Pun Pun, Jon is a leader in bringing the natural building movement to Thailand, appearing as a spokesperson on dozens of publications and TV programs for the past 10 years. After having lived in six countries on four continents and traveled to over 40 countries on six continents, I now have come to see myself as a citizen of the world. In that spirit, I celebrate diversity and I am eager to continuously learn about myself and the world I live in. On my journey in life, I have obtained a B.A. in psychology with positive psychology as my main passion and interest as well as a minor in Religious Studies and a Buddhist Studies certificate. In addition, I am continuously exploring how to optimize mental and physical health to enhance the quality of life for both myself and the people around me. My interests include reading educational non-fiction books about psychology, physical health, sciences, philosophy, and religion. Among my hobbies, I enjoy playing squash, swimming, running, rock climbing, hiking, biking, and general physical exercise.

Great video. Yes, TED talks are gd. Hats off! We , many times ignore tht inner voice n thts when trouble starts. If life would b easy, it would b borin. Wht makes it interesting are the lessons learnt and great challenges. If life wants to play, play along :-)
If we take “easy” as “effortless” then that would make life quite boring. And if “hard” means engaging & challenging then that would make it a catalyst for transformations. But let’s not get hung up on words too much here. My impression was that by using the dichotomy of “easy” & “hard” he was expressing juxtaposing lifestyles / paths people take. “Hard” seems to represent the modern world’s rat race (one small insignificant cog in a big machine) and “easy” something along the lines of a simpler lifestyle that puts you in the front seat to be a creator.
